In the United States, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death, with more than 2,000 14 to 18 year olds dying every year by suicide and accounting for about one of every three injury relateddeaths (Chafouleas, Ph .D., 2020). I believe that both emotional turbulence and social hostility play a part in teenagers committing suicide. Dealing with elevated hormones and trying their best to fit in at school can place a lot of pressure on teenagers. The teenage years are when you are trying to figure out who you are and where you fit in within social cir cles. Being rejected can make you feel depressed and lonely and though there are teenager that are able to overcome those feeling there are others that are affected in a very negative way. According to Erikson, each stage of human development is manifested by a specific crisis or conflict between competing tendencies. Individuals have to negotiate each of these stages smoothly in order to have normal healthy development (Gangwar & Gangwar, 2019). When teenager lack the maturity or the resources to overcome negative feeling and are not able to move past it they remain stuck in that negative thought process which in turn can lead to suicidal th oughts. When it comes to Kohlberg\’s theory of stages, it is at level two that some teenagers start to have issues. At this stage, they want acceptance from others but when they are not able to receive the latter there is a breakdown in the individuals moral. The Gilligan\’s Theory also known as the ethics of caring explains the different stages of caring. This theory, in my opinion, is the best theory in helping a teen who is dealing with bullying. It shows that you should care for others but most importantly to care for yourself and to stand up against any form of violence.
