One of the critical factors that affect the outcomes of health care provision to the patients, families, and professional care providers is the collaborative relationship developed amongst the factions. Strong partnerships provide a team spirit, which is essential in mitigating the challenges of health care provision in the modern day. To achieve this goal, the team members should be proactive, show a sense of emotional maturity, and exhibit the life-long learning desires (McQueen, 2000). The proverbial saying “When in Rome do as Romans do” is, therefore, in my opinion, a huge hindrance to improved healthcare provision to the communities. My understanding of the saying is that once professional nurses and physicians qualify to provide health care, they should fit into the culture and tradition of the institution without questioning the benefits of certain practices. While I believe that institutions take a long time to create a culture in practice and that should be respected, it is my conviction that health care providers must demonstrate the required flexibility because of the ever-changing playing field.
