Texting while driving has been identified as being among the worst form of distracted driving that is responsible for numerous crashes and subsequently, deaths and disabilities. Research has established that during a texting episode, a driver uses up to 4.6 seconds in a 6 second duration looking at the device. This gives a dull picture of the amount of time that texting does consume while driving. The driver’s mind is, therefore, distracted away from driving for large periods of time. To reduce this amount a new technology of talking to text while texting and driving has been touted as a safer way of texting and driving on the basis that it allows the driver to have vision of the surrounding and hence less likely to have an accident. This study seeks to establish if indeed the drivers who text and drive using the talk to text are less likely to have accidents than drivers who text and drive without using talk to text.
