There we so many valuable lessons learned relative to strategic planning. I learned about the importance of strategy to an organization, no matter how large or small. I learned about strategic tactics such as low price approaches for new market entrants to steal away customers of competitors initially upon entering in the market. The value of bargaining power for larger organizations, such as Walmart. We also discussed the importance of follow-up evaluations of and modifications to the strategic processes. It does not matter if its benchmarking, monitoring KPIs, having a program/project management team in place, just as long as it is being monitored and there is assurances that progress is occurring according to plan.

Strategic planning is even more important when considering global marketplace. The considerations of their internet capabilities, culture, and social values are even more important. Ethics go hand-in-hand with considering strategies here and abroad. Everyone in an organization has a role which must be clearly articulated and acted upon to ensure that strategy is successful. Management must be hands-on and ensure that everyone knows their role, has the tools to complete their roles.

The lessons learned are of value in both personal and professional settings. It all goes back to the adage that \”people don\’t plan to fail, they fail to plan\”. There must always be some sort of plan or guidelines which we conduct ourselves both personally and professionally. When there is not a plan, we discover that we have lost so much time and not accomplished as much as we should have, could have, or would have if we had plan in motion.

Throughout this course I was able to learn more in depth on the subject of strategic planning. Starting on why it is very important to implement it, how to design one that helps the company and more importantly how it could help the organization keep a high tempo while achieving their goals. Starting from identifying a strategy that fits the goal and company’s mission, to the role of leaders towards employees and the goals and how to effectively communicate that message on the daily basis. This course also allowed me to identify key factors, such as those connected with international affairs and ethical practices. More importantly, it helped me better understand the goal of my organization and solidify my role in it.

I believe this course showed us some key fundamental basic elements that if followed properly can help us lead a team to success through a solid strategic plan. At the same time, I believe that implementing this concept into our current professions can be very rewarding as we can expect two outcomes from it; the first would be to give us opportunity to lead with concrete guidelines and build confidences along, and the second would be to make a positive impact in our organization, which could allow us and the company to benefit from this concept. Lastly, I believe that if this course were to review more real modern cases where companies have applied both good and bad strategic planning and executions, this in turn would allow us to get a better picture and understanding of the entire concept. Nonetheless, the course and instructor were very helpful for my professional development.
